I know its a bit ch really... good side is that after your body has been in ketosis for a while the odd cup of coffee wont effect it because your body kind of de sensitises a little to the insulin responce.. kind of like its not all touchy any more.

That said during the early stages or when you are trying to clean out your liver its best to stear clear of it.

Loosing weight is never easy..with a band or bypass or just exercise and diet.... end of the day we will always have to watch the food we eat... and trust me I think it bleeding sucks.

i wish they would hurry up with that miracal weightloss pill I been waiting for all my life

??

Zippy, I looked into what you said and boy this stuff is complicated.

Here is what I got...

Ketosis kicks in after about 48 hours of fasting (including optifast). It's when the brain tells the body to stop converting 'sugar' into energy because there's not much to spare, use the 'fat' instead.

Caffeine sets free the reserves of sugar (from the liver) into the blood. The body (via insulin) gets a whiff of it and says yipee we have sugar!! - and stops sucking up fat.

Following this line of reasoning - caffeine doesn't help weight loss at any stage, really. Gosh dang it!

I agree with Zippy. Those liquids you can have after having opti are sooooo good. To be able to have milk etc after hot able to have it is so nice.

Tralee as far as I understand it has to be caffeine free because caffeine will induce an insulin responce which kicks you out of ketosis.

having said that if your doc says its got the green light then run with it.... I did opti for 3 months waiting for my op... it was my choice and I was... like Chookie ... glad I did it . It definitely helps particularly through the liquid and mushy stage. You arnt feeling as deprived because you have done it tougher on the opti than the liquids stage... in fact the fact that I could have a cappacino or cream of chicken soup was awesom to my taste buds ... you appreciate it soooo much more.

Yes it is nice to see a face. can you tell me chooky did you drink diet coke whilst doing Optifast. I asked my dr if I could he said yes but better not too because you can't have it for a little while after surgery but I don't drink that much anyways. I had one can yesterday and tonight when I had a couple of mouth fulls it filled me up really quick in the tummy and didn't taste as good did this happen to you?

Oooohhh... I remember that feeling! I was very fuzzy for the second and third day, and then it was smooth sailing from there on in pretty much! I had to do opti for four weeks and it was the best thing I did! I lost about 15kgs on it and it was such a great kick start and motivator to keep going and get that band in!!!

Good luck with it all Tralee! You'll be banded before you know it! It truly is life changing. :0)
